Problem
Lucid had already shipped AI-generated diagrams, but diagrams are structured end artifacts.
Boards are different. They're starting points for human collaboration, meant to be messy, personal, and unfinished. There was no good way to generate one that felt like yours rather than a template with a coat of paint.
Solution
Working within Lucid's existing AI chat interface, I designed the end-to-end experience for AI-generated boards.
A key design decision was pushing for a constrained generation approach over a fully flexible JSON model: faster, lighter, and paradoxically more useful because it actually worked in real time.
Impact
Shipped internally and launching to all users imminently. Being featured at an upcoming Lucid webinar as a flagship AI capability.
